Wisdom Tooth Extractions in Maize, KS

Tooth extractions can evoke anxiety in both children and parents, yet they're a routine procedure in most dental practices. Sometimes, a child's tooth may be too decayed to salvage, or removal may be necessary to create space for orthodontic treatment.

Irrespective of the cause, Dr. Davidson and her team prioritize ensuring both you and your child feel at ease with the treatment plan. Utilizing local anesthetic, Dr. Davidson will extract your child's tooth. If the tooth is impacted or the extraction proves complex, Dr. Davidson will discuss sedation options with you.

Following the tooth extraction, Dr. Davidson will give you post-operative instructions and place gauze on the extraction site to stop bleeding and help with clot formation. Remember to change the gauze every 20 minutes until the bleeding stops. Here are some recommended tips for the first 24 hours after your child's extraction.
  • Administer recommended over-the-counter or prescribed pain relievers.
  • Offer your child soft foods for the initial 24 hours following extraction.
  • DO NOT allow your child to use a straw, rinse their mouth, spit, or brush the area for at least 24 hours to prevent dry socket.
  • Apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel for approximately 20 minutes to reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • Contact our office immediately if your child develops fever, severe pain, or chills.
Newton Dental Studio places paramount importance on ensuring your child's comfort during all treatments. Dr. Davidson will personally engage in a discussion with you to tailor the most effective approach for your child's treatment based on their individual situation.
