Wisdom Tooth Extractions in Hutchinson, KS

Having a tooth extraction at the dentist's office can be a source of anxiety for children and parents alike. This procedure is often necessary when a child's tooth is severely decayed or when teeth need to be removed to make room for orthodontic treatment.

No matter the reason for the extraction, Dr. Davidson and her team will ensure that both you and your child are comfortable with the treatment plan. Using local anesthetic, Dr. Davidson will gently remove the tooth. If the tooth is impacted or the removal is complex, sedation options will be discussed with you.

After the tooth is removed, Dr. Davidson will give you post-operative instructions and place gauze over the extraction site to stop bleeding and help with clot formation. Remember to change the gauze every 20 minutes until the bleeding stops. Here are some tips to follow during the first 24 hours after your child's extraction:
  • Follow Dr. Davidson's recommendation and use over-the-counter or prescribed pain reliever.
  • Provide soft foods for the first 24 hours.
  • Avoid drinking from a straw, rinsing, spitting, or brushing the area to prevent dry socket.
  • Apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel for 20 minutes to reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • If your child experiences fever, severe pain, or chills, contact our office immediately.
At Newton Dental Studio, your child's comfort is our top priority, regardless of the treatment they are receiving. Dr. Davidson will have a conversation with you to learn about your child's unique situation and decide on the best treatment plan.
