Wisdom Tooth Extractions In Wichita, KS

Extractions can cause anxiety for both children and parents, but they are a routine procedure in most dental offices. In some cases, a child's tooth may be too decayed to save, or they may need a tooth or teeth removed to make space for orthodontic treatment.

Regardless of the reason, Dr. Davidson and her team will ensure that both you and your child feel comfortable with the treatment plan. With the help of local anesthetic, Dr. Davidson will remove your child's tooth. If the tooth is impacted or if the removal is complex, Dr. Davidson will discuss sedation options with you.

After the tooth extraction, Dr. Davidson will provide you with post-operative instructions. They will also place a small piece of gauze on the extraction site to stop bleeding and promote clot formation. Remember to check and replace the gauze every 20 minutes until the bleeding ceases. Here are some recommended tips to follow during the first 24 hours after your child's extraction.
  • Use recommended over-the-counter or prescribed pain reliever.
  • Provide your child with soft foods for the first 24 hours after extraction.
  • AVOID allowing your child to drink from a straw, rinse their mouth, spit, or brush the area for at least 24 hours to prevent dry socket.
  • Apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel for about 20 minutes to alleviate swelling and discomfort.
  • Call our office immediately if your child experiences fever, intense pain, or chills.
Newton Dental Studio prioritizes your child's comfort during any type of treatment they receive. Dr. Davidson will personally discuss their individual situation with you to find the most effective approach for their treatment.
