Wisdom Tooth Extractions In Augusta, KS

Having a tooth extraction can be a source of anxiety for children and parents in dental offices. It is often necessary when a child's tooth has extensive decay or when teeth need to be removed for orthodontic treatment. Regardless of the reason, Dr. Davidson and her team will ensure that both you and your child feel comfortable with the treatment plan. Dr. Davidson will use local anesthetic to gently remove your child's tooth, and if the extraction is complex, she will discuss sedation options with you.
After the tooth is removed, Dr. Davidson will give you post-operative instructions and place gauze over the extraction site to stop bleeding. Remember to change the gauze every 20 minutes until bleeding stops. Here are some tips for the first 24 hours after your child's extraction:
  • Use over-the-counter or prescribed pain reliever.
  • Give your child soft foods for the first 24 hours after their extraction.
  • Avoid allowing your child to drink from a straw, rinse their mouth, spit, or brush the area for at least 24 hours to prevent dry socket.
  • Apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel to the area for 20 minutes to reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • If your child experiences fever, severe pain, or chills, contact our office immediately.
At Newton Dental Studio, your child's comfort is our top priority, regardless of the treatment they are receiving. Dr. Davidson will have a conversation with you to assess your child's individual situation and decide on the best treatment plan.
