Wisdom Tooth Extractions In Park City, KS

Extractions can be a source of anxiety for both children and parents, but they are a common procedure in most dental offices. In some cases, a child's tooth may have too much decay to be restored, or they may need a tooth or teeth removed to make space for orthodontic treatment.

No matter the reason, Dr. Davidson and her team will ensure that you and your child are comfortable with the treatment plan. Following the administration of local anesthetic, Dr. Davidson will proceed with the extraction of your child's tooth. If the tooth is impacted or if the removal is complex, Dr. Davidson will discuss sedation options with you.

Once the tooth is removed, Dr. Davidson will give you post-op instructions, and place a small piece of gauze over the extraction site to stop any bleeding and to help a clot form. Check and replace the gauze every 20 minutes until bleeding stops.

Here are some recommended tips for the first 24 hours after your child’s extraction:

  • If recommended by Dr. Davidson, use either over-the-counter or prescribed pain reliever.
  • Offer your child soft foods for the first day after their extraction.
  • For the first 24 hours after tooth removal, do not let your child drink from a straw, rinse their mouth, spit, or brush the area to avoid dry socket.
  • To reduce swelling and discomfort, apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel to the area for about 20 minutes.
  • Contact our office right away if your child has a fever, severe pain, or chills.
Newton Dental Studio always prioritizes your child's comfort, no matter the treatment they are undergoing. Dr. Davidson will consult with you to tailor a plan that ensures your child receives the necessary treatment in the most comfortable way possible.
