Wisdom Tooth Extractions In Hillsboro, KS

An extraction is a common procedure in most dental offices that can cause anxiety for both children and parents. It may be necessary when a child's tooth has extensive decay that cannot be restored or when teeth need to be removed to create space for orthodontic treatment.

Regardless of the reason, Dr. Davidson and her team will ensure that you and your child feel comfortable with the treatment plan.

With the use of local anesthetic, Dr. Davidson will gently remove your child's tooth. If the tooth is impacted or if the removal is complex, Dr. Davidson will discuss sedation options with you.

Once the tooth is removed, Dr. Davidson will provide you with post-op instructions. They will also place a small piece of gauze over the extraction site to stop any bleeding and promote clot formation. Remember to check and replace the gauze every 20 minutes until the bleeding stops.

Here are some recommended tips to follow during the first 24 hours after your child's extraction:

  • Follow Dr. Davidson's recommendation and use over-the-counter or prescribed pain reliever.
  • Give your child soft foods for the first 24 hours after their extraction.
  • Avoid drinking from a straw, rinsing the mouth, spitting, or brushing the area for at least 24 hours to prevent dry socket.
  • Apply an ice pack wrapped in a towel to the area for 20 minutes to reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • If your child experiences fever, severe pain, or chills, contact our office immediately.
Newton Dental Studio always prioritizes your child's comfort, no matter the treatment they require. Dr. Davidson will have a detailed conversation with you about your child's specific situation in order to determine the most effective approach for their treatment.
